Student Organization Funding Guidelines
CJS supports U-M student organizations’ Japan-related, educational events/activities and accepts funding applications on a rolling basis. The Center strongly encourages applicants to apply to other (U-M and/or external) funding sources as well and prefers to fund activities as a co-sponsor. Information on other U-M funding opportunities is available on University websites.
To review applications efficiently and allocate the limited funds in a fair and effective manner, the Center requests that applicants follow the procedures below.
Eligibility
Undergraduate and graduate student organizations that are registered with the U-M Office of Student Activities and Leadership and have valid SOAS (Student Organization Accounts Service) accounts are eligible to apply.
Application Procedures & Deadline
Submit the following items by email to umcjs@umich.edu no later than 6 weeks before the proposed events/activities.
- A statement describing:
- your organization.
- the proposed event/activity (including its date, location, and relationship with Japan and education).
- a list of proposed panelists/speakers, if the event includes a panel/lectures.
- The entire, detailed budget of the proposed event/activity and the amount requested from CJS.
- A list of other funding sources and amounts (including funding applications currently under review).
- The shortcode of your organization’s SOAS account to which the CJS funds would be transferred.
General Requirements for Funded Events/Activities
CJS requires that the Center be listed as a sponsor in funded events/activities’ promotional materials. All funded applicants are required to submit a brief report (including the number of participants) no later than 3 weeks after the events/activities.
