Five years out, the impact of COVID-19 remains with us. Over one million Americans lost their lives to the pandemic. Half of us lost loved ones. All of us were impacted. How can we remember such unbearable loss and loneliness? Can we ever truly heal?
Breathing Room is a documentary film about grief, healing, and memory in the wake of COVID-19. Our film follows Detroiters and New Yorkers working to commemorate the pandemic through art. Breathing Room traces the evolution of two COVID memorials over three years, spotlighting the women whose artistry and activism shaped these projects. A memorial in itself, Breathing Room commemorates lives lost and communities changed by COVID-19 and celebrates the healing power of art.
