What do tarantulas and rattlesnakes have in common? Fangs, venom, and a notoriously bad reputation. This spooky season, join us for a closer look at two of the animal kingdom’s most misunderstood creatures.
Researchers Dr. Matt Holding from the U-M Life Sciences Institute and Dr. Cara Shillington from Eastern Michigan University’s Arachnid Lab will take us into the world of these two underappreciated animals. From the science of venom and predator–prey interactions to the surprising ways these animals live, move, and interact with their environments, we’ll explore what happens when scientists look beyond the myths and fear surrounding these remarkable creatures.
Come curious, leave with a new appreciation for fangs and venom, just in time for Halloween.
The program begins at 6 p.m. Seating is limited, so please come early.
