In February 2019, Assistant Professor and Michigan Society of Fellows Postdoctoral Scholar, Ania Aizman, published an article with the NYU Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia.
Aizman's article, "Stiob and the State," looks at how state actors, such as Trump and Putin, are using stiob in its many forms. The "highest halls of power" seem to have arrogatedd stiob, but Aizman points out that "we need more than the ironic pink hats of 'The Resistance.' From the J20 Protests to the unflinching speech of the new Congresswomen, new voices are emerging."
