On October 28, 2024 we hosted the second event in our department’s Ukraine series, featuring a captivating reading by Ostap Slyvynsky, one of Ukraine’s most celebrated authors.

He and his translator, Grace Mahoney, read from his newly translated books: Winter King, a poetry collection, and A Ukrainian Dictionary of War, a deeply moving compilation of testimonies from Ukrainians affected by Russia’s war. In conversation with Alex Averbuch, they discussed how war reshapes language and how translation brings these transformations to a broader audience.
