An informal discussion about contemporary theater in Moscow, featuring prominent playwright Maxsym Kurochin, and dramaturges and translators John Freedman and Yelena Kovolskya. The evening will include presentations of scenes from several of Kurochin’s recent plays, including the satire The Schooling of Bento Bontsov and a study of artistic integrity in a world of media celebrity, Repress and Excite. Scenes from Kurochin’s play Kitchen will also be presented. Directed by Kate Mendeloff and Leonora Ivanitsky, the casts include U-M students and faculty as well as local actors.
