Semester in Detroit is thrilled to welcome Jamon Jordan - noted Detroit educator and historian - to our faculty team for the fall 2021 semester. Founder of the company Black Scroll Network History and Tours, and former long-time high school history teacher, Jamon Jordan will teach the foundational Detroit history class in SiD’s curriculum, taking over for Associate Professor Stephen Ward who will be on sabbatical for the 2021-22 academic year. Jamon Jordan has partnered with SiD in many capacities over the past several years. He has provided a wealth of knowledge and experience to our students through his dynamic walking tours and in Detroiters Speak sessions where he teaches about - as the Metro Times described - the “hidden Black histories of Detroit.” Jordan is a widely-recognized expert in Detroit history and was recently appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to the State of Michigan’s Freedom Trail Commission which honors the legacy of the Underground Railroad and the antislavery movement in the state. 

As Semester in Detroit continues to grow roots and relationships in Detroit in our 13th year, we are excited for this opportunity to expand our teaching capacity by welcoming Jamon Jordan, a legacy Detroiter, community expert, and ongoing civil rights activist. Welcome, Jamon!
