CEAL-Ride provides transportation support for community engagement courses.
To find out if your request qualifies, please consider these requirements.
The course/program:
- Must be in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA).
- Should establish a relationship in the community through regular site visits.
- May not use vehicles, once at the engagement site, for the community partner's programatic purposes.
Instructions for faculty requesting transportation for their course/program:
- Determine if your course meets the above critieria.
- Gather the course details, site location, group size, and frequency of travel.
- Contact CEAL-Ride Program Administrator (ceal-ride@umich.edu) to discuss a relevant timeline & process.
- Complete a $50 lab fee request form. (Form Help)
- Work with the CEAL-Ride Program Administrator to schedule orientations and vehicles for your class.
Please also keep in mind:
- If you'd like to integrate community-based learning into your course, Ginsberg Center offers faculty training and consultations.
- Lab Fee request deadlines are: February 8 for Fall courses and Spring and/or Summer Courses. October 8 for Winter Courses. [Lab Fees Policy]
- Lab fees contribute to the cost of vehicle rental. The remainder of the expense is subsidized by LSA Undergraduate Ed.. [Lab Fees justification example]
- CEAL-Ride does not provide drivers for the vehicles.
- Due to a limited number of vehicles, sites that are serviced by a bus line may not be eligible.
- Vehicles carry up to 7 total occupants.
- Field trips and/or large groups cannot be accommodated. To apply for field trip funding: Instructional Development Fund (IDF) through CRLT.
- Students who decide to use their own vehicles are not covered by U-M auto insurance.
