Founded in 1967, the Residential College is a four-year interdisciplinary program that celebrates the best of the liberal arts within LSA. With 4 majors, 4 minors, 5 immersion languages, 4 visual arts studios, the Keene Theater and 8 unique community-engagement programs, the RC is truly unlike any other space on campus.
In the RC, we strive to foster academic independence. We encourage students to explore their passions and intellectual curiosity, charting their own academic journey. Small class sizes and a close-knit community, personalized attention, and meaningful relationships with our distinguished faculty define our approach. We nurture critical thinking, ignite creativity, and cultivate a love of lifelong learning.
We also embrace global citizenship and leadership development. RC students engage with diverse cultures, perspectives, and experiences, as we firmly believe that education extends beyond the classroom walls. By emphasizing empathy, ethical decision-making, and intercultural understanding, we equip RC students with the tools to address complex global challenges with compassion and integrity.
Your Gifts at Work
“The RC has influenced my academic and career paths, all while exposing me to new ideas, people and cultures and teaching me how to be an open-minded, caring and conscientious learner and person in our community and broader society.”
– Lilllian Pearce (she/her), A.B. ’23
“I love that wherever you go in East Quad, there’s always an RC student doing something creative - whether it be playing music, making art, or displaying their own form of expression. The students in the RC are incredibly brilliant and studious, but they also know how to have fun with their friends.
All of the RC faculty I’ve met have been just as unique as the program, and they’ve all been awesome in their own ways. The environment and the people of the RC demonstrate great passion and I think the passion is one of the strong feelings you get from the RC.”
– Paige Bost (any/all), LSA Class of ’25
“The RC as a whole is a very inclusive and open minded community to be a part of. Most people here are always open to making a new friend or helping if you need something real quick and if not they may know someone else who can help a bit better. It’s a community that helps you feel comfortable with your new surroundings in no time.”
– Myles Ware (he/him), LSA Class of ’25
