Why did you decide to do Michigan in Washington?

I grew up wanting to be a diplomat and representing the United States overseas. MIW gives me the opportunity to see the political wheels in motion from the inside, see how everything works, and especially being somehow involved in what's going on.

What do you do during a typical day at your internship?

I work on different projects, including targeting the right people in Congress, preparing for lobby days, working along with congressmen and congresswomen to strengthen the International Affairs Budget, strategizing my team's steps in terms of relations and network, and last but not least, covering some events from other think tanks.

What's something that you're proud of that you've done at your internship so far?

There are many things, but to generalize, I would say I'm proud to be able to keep up with my team, I can see them relying on me, asking for my opinions, and following suggestions. I feel part of the team, and, as my supervisor said, we both have the impression I always worked there.

How has your skillset evolved or changed since you began working on this internship?

I knew it was going to be a fast-paced office, and although I had already worked with the House of Representatives similarly, this time, I found myself trying to strategize and optimize the time I had to accomplish multiple tasks. Furthermore, it's really teamwork, so there's a lot of collaboration and support from anyone on the team, which initially surprised me, but when I initially started it, I didn't think I could rely on them to this extent. I thought I had to prove myself somehow. Now I know it's a balance.

What is one fun activity that you have done since being in D.C.?

I was able to go to an NBA game with the Cavaliers and a couple of ballets at the Kennedy Center.

What advice would you give to a student interested in Michigan in Washington?

I think I would suggest being ambitious, not being scared to achieve your dreams, put yourself out there, and people will recognize it, appreciate it, and help you.
