Academic Peer Advisor
Dates of Employment: March - August, 2025
Pay: $16 per hour
Hours: 20-30 hours per week

Responsibilities:
The CSP Orientation Academic Peer Advisor (APA) works with incoming CSP students as they register for their first Fall term at Michigan. The APA will design and conduct CSP welcome and informational sessions for incoming CSP students entering in the Summer and Fall 2025 semesters. The APA will work closely with the CSP advising staff and will receive supervision from the Coordinator of New Student Programs. The APA must be available for student consultation during morning and afternoon sessions. The work for this position will be mostly remote, but will welcome students to campus in-person on the following dates:
- Friday, July 25th
- Friday, August 1st, 8th, and 22nd
Requirements
- Undergraduate student with at least sophomore standing (25 credits) by the end of the WN25 term
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Membership within the CSP community is preferred
- Demonstrated engagement with CSP advising, e.g., regular meetings with advisor is preferred
Additional Information
APAs cannot be enrolled in classes over the spring or summer terms. Training for this position will take place for 4 hours per week in March and April with the primary work for this role taking place in May through August.

2025 Academic Peer Advisor (APA) Job Description 2025 APA Application
Academic Peer Leader
Dates of Employment: Ongoing
Pay: $16 per hour
Hours: Varies
Primary Contact: Heather Gabbard, Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction
Responsibilities
Academic Peer Leaders provide direct academic support to CSP students and students enrolled in CSP class sections. APLs work with students either individually or in groups and assist students in identifying strengths and areas for improvement, refining problem solving strategies, planning and goal-setting, and self-assessment.
Requirements
- Good academic standing at the University of Michigan with a 2.5 or better GPA
- Grades of B or better in subject matter for which they will provide support
- Strong communication skills and content knowledge
- Commitment to CSP’s principles of antiracism, inclusion, and equity
Additional Information
Academic peer support is currently offered in a group format for math and statistics and in individual, one-on-one format for Spanish, French, Economics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Environmental Science. Tutoring in other subjects is offered as available, and applicants with other expertise are also encouraged to apply! Hours and scheduling are flexible, but group support for math and statistics requires evening availability.

Academic Peer Leader Application
Course Assistant
Dates of Employment: June 9 (tentative) - August 15, 2025

Hours: 15-20 hours per week

Responsibilities
Course Assistants (CAs) are highly qualified undergraduate students who are given an opportunity to support instruction in either Math (CSP 103: Foundations in Quantitative Reasoning and Literacy) or Writing (CSP105: Writing and Culture Seminar). These courses prepare Summer Bridge students for a range of humanities and math-oriented classes, especially writing-intensive courses and the introductory math sequence. As a course assistant, you will support student learning in and outside of class, but specific course assistant tasks will vary by course.
Requirements
- An average of a B+ in the subject area (Math if applying for a CSP 103 CA position; English if applying for a CSP 105 CA position)
- Be in good academic standing at U-M with at last a 2.5 GPA and have achieved at least sophomore status (30 CTP)
- Previous teaching, tutoring, or mentorship experience is preferred
- Knowledge of CSP and the Summer Bridge Scholars Program is preferred

2025 Course Assistant (CA) Job Description 2025 CA Application
Residence Coordinator
Dates of Employment: May 12 (tentative) - August 15, 2025
Pay: $20/hr
Hours: 35-40 hours per week
Primary Contact: Ellington Poston, Coordinator for Summer Bridge Scholars Program
Responsibilities:
Summer Bridge Scholars Program Residence Coordinators serve as an active and visible staff member responsible for the development and implementation of community development for up to 19 student staff and 350 first-year Summer Bridge scholars.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree from an accredited 4-year college or university
- 2 years experience in higher ed/student affairs or related program, residence education, and/or working with college students
- Ability to effectively speak with diplomacy when interacting with diverse populations (i.e. scholars, staff, faculty, parents and visitors in the college community)
- Knowledge of CSP and the Summer Bridge Scholars Program strongly preferred

This position is a temporary full-time, live-in position for entering or current graduate students, or candidates who have obtained a bachelor's or graduate degree within 3 months of the posting start date. Multiple positions are available.

Residential Peer Mentor
Dates of Employment: June 9 - August 15, 2025
Pay: $16 per hour
Hours: 25-30 hours per week
Primary Contact: Ellington Poston, Coordinator for Summer Bridge Scholars Program
Responsibilities
SBSP Residential Peer Mentors (PM) live and work with first-year scholars to aid them in their engagement with the SBSP community and support them socially and academically in their first semester at the University of Michigan. In collaboration with University Housing and Residence Education staff, they assist in developing community and upholding university and residence hall policies and standards.
Peer Mentors are assigned to a cohort of up to 22 scholars and will be responsible for providing individualized support to these scholars throughout the summer term. Peer Mentors receive supervision from the Coordinator for the Summer Bridge Scholars Program and the SBSP Residence Coordinators.
Requirements
- U-M undergraduate who will have completed at least 30 credits by the end of the WN 2025 term. U-M students graduating WN 2025 are eligible to apply.
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA; Winter semester GPA must be in good standing (2.0 GPA or higher with no probation or special probation status)
- Previous residence hall experience or similar leadership experiences are preferred
- Knowledge of CSP and the Summer Bridge Scholars Progam is preferred
