Dear Colleagues,
We are sad to report the passing of renowned historian and Michigan alumnus Dr. Nidhi Eoseewong. Dr. Nidhi was born in Chiang Mai in 1940, and after completing a bachelor's and a master's degree from Chulalongkorn University and a Ph.D. from Michigan in 1976, he returned to Chiang Mai University, where he spent the remainder of his career. Described as "one of the greatest historians that Thailand has ever produced" (Fukuoka Prize Citation 1999), he was well known not only for his world-class scholarship but for his political commentaries, which continued even after he retired in 2000.
We at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies wish to honor Dr. Nidhi's life and work and extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Nidhi's family and friends.
Best wishes,
Allen Hicken
Director, Center for Southeast Asian
