Funding

The Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) offers fellowships and grants to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and non-UM scholars affiliated with Southeast Asian educational institutions, to support workshops, seminars, research and study abroad, international internships, and the study of less commonly taught languages.

For conference/research travel requests, please submit the following application materials 60-days before the event. Requests made after the event will not be considered.:

Conference Support Requests

  • CV
  • Budget proposal
    • Must include list of other funding sources
  • Reason for funding request
    • A statement of about 500 words describing the nature of your participation at the conference and how it contributes to your professional development.
  • A letter of support from your faculty advisor.
  • Send all materials to cseas@umich.edu with the Subject Line "Student Conference Support request"
    • Requests must be submitted 60 calendar days before proposed event takes place

In addition, the center also considers requests from student organizations and faculty to co-sponsor SEA related U-M lectures, events and activities that coincide with the Center's mission to promote a broad and deep understanding of Southeast Asia. 

SEA-related Event Funding Requests

  • 500-word description of the event
  • Budget proposal with list of other sponsors 
    • Must include list of other funding sources
  • Send all materials to cseas@umich.edu with the Subject Line "Southeast Asia related event funding"
    • Requests must be submitted 60 calendar days before proposed event takes place
