Welcome to the two incoming Masters in International and Regional Studies (MIRS), African Studies specialization students, Delany Doggett and Omowumi Elizabeth Banjo!
Delany is pursuing her MIRS degree with a focus on globalization and development. During her undergraduate time at Appalachian State, she developed a passion for studying issues related to development and aid programs on the African continent. She looks forward to expanding her knowledge, enhancing her research abilities, and forming relationships with the MIRS faculty and peers.
Omowumi is joining the MIRS program after serving as a Yoruba instructor and cultural exchange ambassador through the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program. Her research seeks to fill a gap in the existing literature on domestic and other gender-based violence in Nigeria by examining how contemporary literary genres interrogate gender-based violence in relation to the realm of cultural politics in Nigeria.
