UMAPS Alum Receives Prestigious Women in Science Award
Priscilla Mante (UMAPS 2016-17) received one of only 15 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Rising Talent Awards 2019, making her the only African award recipient this year and the first-ever recipient from her university, KNUST in Ghana. Mante, who researches plant-based therapeutic options to manage drug-resistant epilepsy, credits the support from mentors for her own career success, and is committed to providing similar mentorship to the upcoming generation of female scientists. The UMAPS program provided Mante with her first female mentor, Lori Isom (Pharmacology); she says of her mentor, "Professor Isom was very instrumental in helping me understand the heights to which I might take my career, and she continues to provide research opportunities for me and my mentees. This really makes me confident about my career.” Read more about Priscilla Mante's award »
