University of Michigan’s African Studies Center (ASC) is holding a symposium titled “Sudan: In The Eye of the Storm” to encourage dialogues on the multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing the country of Sudan.

The symposium aims to bring together a diverse group of scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the complex geopolitical, socio-economic, and cultural dynamics shaping Sudan's present and future. Through a series of panel discussions, keynote addresses, and interactive sessions, the symposium will delve into topics such as, human rights, geopolitics, economic development, and cultural heritage preservation. By fostering constructive dialogue and knowledge exchange, the symposium seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of Sudan's realities and to identify pathways toward sustainable peace, prosperity, and resilience.

Khalid Mustafa Medani (McGill  University) will be delivering the keynote address. The symposium will also include panel discussions featuring Yousif Hassan (U-M), Susan D. Page (U-M), Nisirin Elamin (University of Toronto), Suliman Baldo (Sudan Transparency and Policy Tracker), Chris Tounsel (University of Washington), and Husam Mahjoub (Sudan Bukra), among other notable speakers.
