“The Unseen Archive of Idi Amin“ opening exhibit attracts much attention at Ugandan National Museum

Great article about "The Unseen Archive," a vast collection of photographs documenting the regime of Uganda's former president Idi Amin. Taken by photographers of Uganda's Ministry of Information and forgotten in the archives of the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation until 2015, the pictures chronicle high politics and everyday life in Uganda from the late 1950s to the mid 1980s. Many ASC associates have over the years been involved with the project, spearheaded by Derek Peterson, to digitize and exhibit the collection, with partial funding from ASC.Curated by AHHI steering committee member Derek Peterson, Uganda National Museum curator Nelson Abiti, and Richard Vokes and Edgar Taylor, the exhibit The Unseen Archive of Idi Amin: Photographs from the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation presents never-before-seen photographs taken by Idi Amin's press photographers in the 1970s. Housed in the archives of the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation, the collection on which this exhibit is based has recently been digitized, with funding provided in part by ASC's African Heritage and Humanities Initiative.
