Derek Peterson wins Melville J. Herskovits Award
The African Studies Association (ASA) presents the Herskovits Award to the author of the most important scholarly work in African studies published in English during the preceding year. This year, the Melville J. Herskovits Award was awarded to Derek R. Peterson, professor of history and Afroamerican and African studies, U-M, for his book, Ethnic Patriotism and the East African Revival: A History of Dissent, c. 1935-1972 (Cambridge University Press, 2012).
