Pigeon River Country State Forest is looking for vounteers for their Citizen-Scientist monitoring project...

Pigeon River Country is 106,500 acre state forest located east of the town of Vanderbilt. As you may know we are the central point of the Michigan elk herd. We however have many other featured species such as the pileated woodpecker, black-throated blue warbler, golden-winged warbler, and wood thrush. For the last two years we have had an ongoing project to collect data on these featured species using citizens and students.  Our main focus has been point surveying for the four bird species listed above.

We are looking for interested citizen volunteers and wildlife based college classes to take part in our Citizen-Scientist monitoring of the Pigeon River Country State Forest. We have training available for identification of these targeted species as well as planned out routes and locations where we are looking to monitor. This is a great chance for volunteers to contribute to important data collection as well as enjoying the outdoors while doing so.
