Student Assistant Position in Aquatic and Community Ecology at U of M’s Edwin S. George Reserve in Pinckney, Michigan

We seek a student who would like to gain technical skills and training related to biological, environmental, and ecological research as a full time research assistant in the summer of 2015. Our broader research objectives include using a fishzooplankton model system to examine how predators "scare" prey, and how associated changes in prey behavior affect community dynamics and the overall ecosystem. This research has applications to aquatic habitat management biodiversity, and invasive species, among others. Research entails field surveys of zooplankton and other lake parameters, collection of fish and zooplankton for experiments, assistance conducting mesocosm experiments, lab upkeep, and zooplankton identification via microscopy.

We seek a student who has good attention to detail and enthusiasm for aquatic habits and/or ecology, and who would like to gain laboratory and field experience to help further his/her career.

The work will be conducted at U of M’s Edwin S. George Reserve in Pinckney, Michigan (http://sitemaker.umich.edu/esgr/home). Free housing is provided at the reserve. In addition to our lab group (currently 2 graduate students and 1 undergraduate assistant), the reserve is used for a variety of other research projects which makes it an exciting and engaging place to live and work.

Applications will be evaluated as they arrive.
Pay: $8-10/hr, depending on experience. Free housing.
Start date: May or June 2015
