Science Communication Course

Open to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors

In this course, students will develop an understanding of how people learn; acquire tools for engaging a range of audiences; evaluate and select appropriate communication platforms; and build scientific literacy and motivation for lifelong learning. Students will have opportunities to share their science with the public during select events at U-M Museum of Natural History.

Drawing from their own experiences and field of study, students will practice science communication that addresses community needs and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM. Topics may include the pedagogy of informal learning environments, messaging for public audiences, K-12 outreach, hands-on engagement, visual and oral presentations, podcasting, and more.

This years course can be found in the course catalog as MCDB 396. Science Outreach for Biology.
