Research data has a longer lifespan than the project. When studies close, the data remains important for verification and reuse. Proper stewardship ensures data continues to support future research and compliance after a project has ended.
The research data lifecycle illustrates the stages of data management and stewardship—the process of deciding and documenting how data will be collected, organized, stored and shared—and describes how data flows through a project from start to finish.
