Instructional Technologist, Videoconferencing Lead
About
Todd provides leadership to the ISS team that supports live video connections in teaching, research, and administration. If you are an LSA affiliate, reach our group at LSATechnologyServices@umich.edu.
Todd has worked in videoconferencing since 2001, when he was certified as an Internet 2 Site Coordinator for Videoconferencing. Since joining the ISS team in 2011, Todd has built the Videoconferencing Group from a single person to a staff of four, running connections from locations all over the college with partners in such diverse locations as Haiti, Germany, South Africa, Australia, Myanmar, North Korea, China, Japan, Brazil, and many more besides.
Under Todd’s leadership, LSA led the university in the adoptions of Blue Jeans as the default cloud service for videoconferencing. Now licensed university-wide, the availability of Blue Jeans has spurred a massive growth in the use of live connections on campus, with an average of 250K minutes being used each week, even in the summer months.
Todd came to ISS after a number of years in the Political Science department, where he provided IT services to faculty, staff, and graduate students, and spearheaded training for campus IT administrators on the then-new Mac OS X, greatly expanding the ability of IT staff to support this in-demand platform.
He first came to Ann Arbor in pursuit of a Ph.D. in Russian Politics and still enjoys using his skills for regular joint projects with partners in Russia.
Todd holds a B.A. in Political Science, Magna cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Rochester and is a graduate of the Preparatory Department of the Eastman School of Music in Violoncello.
