About
Peter is the LSA IT Advocate for Anthropology, Afroamerican and African Studies, Earth and Environmental Sciences, the Program in the Environment, the Museum of Paleontology, the Museum of Anthropological Archaeology, and the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. His background is in oceanography, geology, and information sciences. He provides research computing support across the College for: Information Technology (IT) for field science education and research, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), ruggedized and mobile computing, field instrument integration and networking, and collaboration systems; cloud-computing in a variety of domains that are not traditionally computer-science-oriented; and, advanced visualization techniques, such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and photogrammetry. He also manages the LSA IT GIS Consulting team, and teaches a number of GIS workshop throughout the year covering a wide variety of introductory through advanced topics, either as standalone, general sessions or specialized sessions integrated in academic courses. Additionally, he works with the rest of the LSA IT Advocacy and Research Support team to assist researchers with: IT-related content for funding opportunities; the design and acquisition of IT hardware, software, and service solutions; understanding and managing the storage, backup, and security of research data; custom IT design and development in support of research activities; and, integrating research equipment with local or campus-wide IT infrastructure.
