The Department remembers Amanda Tillotson, University of Michigan Department of Political Science and School of Social Work PhD alumnus (2016) and Masters of Social Work (2010) who passed away this fall. Her dissertation was titled "Race, Risk and Real Estate in the Development of the Home Ownership State," and her committee included Political Science Department faculty members Nancy Burns, Rob Mickey, and Mary Corcoran. Amanda was a recipient of the School of Social Work’s Race, Law, & History Fellowship and the Mary Parker Follette Award. A memorable and much-loved instructor, she was nominated for the Political Science Department’s John W. Kingdon Award for Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) Teaching in 2012. Her students described her as enthusiastic, dedicated to their success with the material, and full of practical wisdom and insight from her experiences as a social worker prior to starting the PhD Program.
