Anna Grzymala-Busse wrote a commentary for the Washington Post's Monkey Cage blog about the new Polish bill that would make abortion illegal in all circumstances. In the article she discusses how this law relates to the strong influence of the Catholic Church on Polish policy and reflects the current partisan divide in Polish politics.

The proposed bill has been met with backlash from the public. Grzymala-Busse writes, "the demonstrations, tweets, op-eds, and mobilization are a protest against open and direct church involvement in politics, and especially the perception that the Church is exploiting social tensions and political conflict to attain its goals."
