About
"Tactile Poetics"
Touch is essential to most modes of writing—handwriting, typing—but what if a poem is generated by touch? If, for instance, the handling of paper is essential to the creation of the poem, its selection of language, and not just its recording? I have been creating poem-objects—from quilts to origami fortune-tellers to knitted textiles—from cyanotypes since 2022. Extending this practice, my project explores the relationship between tactility, duration, and poetic process. I will knit a large poetic textile garment which I can wear before unravelling the garment off my body in order to read the printed text.
