Ericka Lopez: touch
When you enter the atrium, the door to the IH Gallery is on your left. Exhibition materials, including a card, exhibition checklist, and Institute for the Humanities calendars are located on a small 2 ft tall table to the left of the gallery entrance. To the right of the gallery door is a title wall, featuring the curatorial essay. The full essay is written in Braille to the right of the gallery doorway. To the left of the door is a QR code that links directly to this page, along with a sign stating that gallery visitors are allowed to gently touch all of the artwork throughout the exhibition. However, the Institute requests that visitors refrain from picking up artwork or removing it from the wall.
The gallery space itself is approximately a 20 ft x 20 ft cube with 12 ft ceilings. There are two benches located in northeast corner of the gallery. In the center of the gallery are three wooden tables. Eleven ceramic vessels sit atop these tables.
There are three separate QR codes located throughout the gallery, which provide artwork descriptions. In order to help locate the QR codes, tactile squares have been installed on the floor, and for those using canes, small blocks have been installed along the gallery baseboard directly below the QR codes. To the right of each QR code, the artwork descriptions are written in Braille and to the right of the Braille are the wall works.
If you have questions or require assistance, the door to the IH office is directly across the atrium from the gallery.
