Max Kade Activities

Max Kade has two weekly and special events throughout the academic year, culminating in a trip to a German-speaking city in the spring. Here are some highlights:

Kaffeestunde

Kaffeestunde is a weekly opportunity to mingle and unwind "auf Deutsch". The RA coordinates themes and activities to allow residents to learn about German-speaking areas, culture, and issues.

Deutschtisch

Deutschtisch is a weekly event in the North Quad dining hall for residents and guests to speak German during a meal.

The German Experience

The German Experience is an outreach event open to the entire U-M community. During this event, Max Kade residents have interactive stations to educate attendees about the German-speaking city to which they will travel for the spring trip.

Spring Trip to a German-speaking City

Max Kade residents are eligible to apply to go on an affordable, subsidized trip to a German-speaking city in the spring. Cities visited include Berlin, Hamburg, Vienna, and Munich.

Filmabends

Filmabends are organized monthly for residents to watch German movies together.

Examples of special activities organized for Max Kade residents include:

  • Attending musical performances by German composers and artists (Handel's Messiah, Berliner Philharmoniker, etc.)
