Intermittent Lecturer
About
Ian is a faculty member at the Comprehensive Studies Program, where he has taught CSP 105 and Writing 100 since 2015. He received his PhD in English and Film and Media Studies from Wayne State University, focusing on sound studies, phenomenological philosophy, and the history and aesthetics of experimental film. His current research examines the ways in which aesthetic relations in audiovisual art model broader relations of power. His writing has appeared in journals such as Discourse and Criticism. In addition to his work with CSP, he teaches in the Department of Language, Culture, and Communication at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
In his free time, Ian enjoys playing his modular synthesizer and mushroom hunting with his wife Michelle and their basset hound Herbert. A few of his favorite things about teaching for CSP are the small class sizes and diverse student backgrounds, both of which allow for deep and lively conversations.
