WCEE-Release Peace Fellowship

WCEE-Release Peace Fellowship (Winter 2025)

The Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia (WCEE) is pleased to offer the WCEE-Release Peace Fellowship, a partnership with The Hague-based NGO Release Peace, to support University of Michigan students in contributing to the discourse on peace, security, and human rights in Europe and Eurasia. 

This fellowship provides funding for 2-3 undergraduate and graduate students to research and submit brief articles on these themes. The articles will be published in the Release Peace periodical. Fellows will receive a $1,000 stipend and mentorship from professional editors to produce high-quality writing. 

Awards: $1,000 stipend.

Application Timeline

Winter 2025 Semester

  • Application Opens: February 1, 2025 at 12:01 a.m.
  • Application Deadline: March 15, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

Eligibility Criteria

Open to U-M Ann Arbor undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and professional school students, regardless of citizenship, enrolled in a full-time degree program. 

  • Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated academic interest in peace studies, international relations, or human rights in Europe and/or Eurasia.

Application Requirements

  • Completed application form
  • Statement of purpose (approximately 500 words) detailing the applicant’s interest in Europe and/or Eurasia and proposing one or two relevant topics for the Release Peace periodical
  • Curriculum Vitae or résumé
  • University of Michigan transcript

Final decisions will be communicated to applicants within 2 weeks of the application deadline. Selected fellows will be notified via email.

Reporting Requirements (After Award Disbursement)

  • Fellows must submit a 1,000 word research article on a relevant topic related to peace, security, or human rights in Europe or Eurasia.
  • Fellows must provide an annotated bibliography of key sources consulted during research.

Ethical Guidelines

  • Fellows must uphold the highest standards of academic integrity. Instances of plagiarism or unethical conduct will result in disqualification and stipend withdrawal.
  • Articles must be original and not previously published.
