The Stockholm University–University of Michigan Collaboration in Research and Education was established with support from Stockholm University (S-U) and University of Michigan Provost’s Office (U-M). The program was implemented by the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia (WCEE), the Center for European Studies-European Union Center (CES-EUC) and the International Exchange Unit (IEU), Stockholm University.

Richard Abel, is the Robert Altman Collegiate Professor of Film Studies in the Department ofScreen Arts & Cultures, U-M. During his residency at the Stockholm University in May 2011, Professor Abel gave colloquia on historiographical debates about pre-classical American cinema; did archival research on film “repatriation” at the Swedish Television Archives and National Library of Sweden. His Stockholm University host was Professor Jan Olsson of the Cinema Studies Department.

Jonathan M. Feldman, is currently an Associate Professor at Stockholm University in the International Relations unit at the Department of Economic History. Feldman teaches courses on war and conflict, security policy, energy security, and democracy and social change. Feldman’s current research focuses on how regions are successful or not in promoting mass transit manufacturing and the supply of light rail services. During his residency at the University of Michigan, Professor Feldman will study the best practices for incubating mass transit technologies of SMART, Sustainable Mobility & Accessibility Research & Transformation, a project at the U-M Transportation Research Institute and Taubman College of Architecture & Urban Planning. His U-M host in September 2011 will be Susan Zielinski, SMART.

William S. Currie is an associate professor of ecosystem modeling at the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment. He received his Ph.D. in natural resources from the University of New Hampshire in 1995 and taught at the University of Maryland before coming to U-M in 2003. He will visit the University of Stockholm for three weeks during Spring/Summer of 2010. Professor Currie is working on a project titled "Designing Ecosystem Models for use in Sustainability Science," and plans to collaborate with Dr. Jon Norberg, currently in the department of Systems Ecology at Stockholm University.

Dr. Arja Karivieri is currently working on the Kalaureia Project of the Swedish Institute in Athens. Since 1999, she has been the director of the excavation project of the Finnish Institute at Athens in an Early Christian Church at Arethousa in Northern Greece, where Finnish, Swedish and Greek scholars and students of Classical Archaeology, participated in the fieldwork between 1999 and 2004. During her residency at the University of Michigan in spring of 2010, she will collaborate with Professor Christopher Ratte in the Interdepartmental Program in Classical Art and Archaeology.
