Tolulope Olawole, Ph.D., joined the African Studies Center as a UMAPS scholar in the Fall of 2021. During this time, she was a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry at Covenant University in Nigeria. While at Michigan, she was hosted by Jaclyn Goodrich from the Department of Environmental Health Sciences and conducted her research focused on the influence of early-life nutrition, malnutrition, and environmental chemical exposure on the epigenome.
Upon Olawole’s completion of her UMAPS fellowship at the University of Michigan, she was offered a post-doctoral position at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. She will be working at the Center for Global and Population Health on Cancer Radiogenomics as well as other related cancer epidemiologic and global health equity projects. Her research will focus on biobanking and studying the biological and environmental drivers of cancers among African populations.
