We offer a range of courses in Asian/Pacific Islander American (A/PIA) Studies each semester. Through our teaching, we strive to highlight the contributions of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans to American history and life, to understand contemporary conditions and struggles of A/PIA communities, and to examine contemporary literary and cultural production. A/PIA Studies has a deep history in community-based service and knowledge production, hence many of its courses incorporate service learning components. Many courses also fulfill LSA distribution requirements as well as the Race & Ethnicity requirement; students should check the LSA Course Guide for the most updated information on specific courses.
An academic minor in Asian/Pacific Islander American Studies is available for undergraduates who wish to develop a coherent understanding of the contributions of the Asian and Pacific Islander American presence in American life, history, and thought. Undergraduates also have the option of focusing a course of study through a major in American Culture.
