About
My proposed doctoral research concerns the vernacular Christianities of the Indian Ocean world, particularly those practiced by dominant-caste Syrian Christians and historically subordinated Pentecostal Christians, as they circulate between their places of work in the Arabian/Persian Gulf and their home societies in Kerala, south India today. More broadly, I am interested in transregional mobility, histories of caste and conversion, migrants and city-making, charismatic religious practices, Eastern Orthodox liturgical traditions, and Christian eschatology. I have also worked on sound and media, with a focus on south Indian radio networks and the work-leisure worlds of migrants in the Arabian/Persian Gulf.
