I am interested in the Medieval Roman Aegean, answering questions related to warfare generally, the expansion and maintenance of imperial hegemony, how peripheral populations are impacted by and react to imperial warfare, societal disintegration and reorganization, the logistical apparatus of premodern states (including the persistence of lithic technologies), and more. My research centers on the Greek island of Kalymnos, using GIS and pedestrian survey.
My field experience includes multiple seasons in Cyprus with the Athienou Archaeological Project of Davidson College, and the Settled and Sacred Landscapes of Cyprus project of the University of Cyprus. I have an additional year of experience working for CRM firms in the U.S., and occasional academic digs throughout the midwest. I have worked with collections both from the site of Athienou-Malloura and the Michigan State University project at Isthmia for a number of seasons.
