About
Israa Khalifa is a doctoral student in the Anthropology and History program at the University of Michigan and is also pursuing the Science, Technology, and Society Graduate Certificate. In 2024-2025, she is a Fellow at the Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies.
Her dissertation research is a historical ethnography that examines the politics of genetics and precision medicine among scientists and everyday people in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Gulf societies.
Additionally, she has been researching the Ahmed Zaki Abu Shadi collection at U-M's Joseph A. Labadie Collection and the NYU Abu Dhabi collection to discuss themes related to nationalism and technosciecne in earyl twentieth-century Egypt.
