October 17-19, 2024
Join us for a prospective graduate student preview event! Hosted by the U-M College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA), “Know Before U Go Blue” is a university-funded (free to you!) opportunity to visit our Ann Arbor campus and learn more about our Anthropology Ph.D. program. Covered costs include roundtrip transportation (airfare/train/bus ticket within the US), ground transportation to Ann Arbor, and hotel stay and meals during the event. We will also waive Rackham Graduate School’s application fee for students selected to participate in this program.

Who can participate?
Anyone planning to begin graduate school in fall 2025 or 2026 (must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or DACA recipient). We seek a diverse pool of applicants who are committed to furthering their anthropology education and contributing to their wider academic, professional or civic communities. Our selection process follows the Rackham Merit Fellowship Program’s eligibility guidelines.
Applicants must also meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Come from an educational, cultural or geographic background that is underrepresented in graduate study.
- Demonstrate a sustained commitment to diversity in the academic, professional or civic realm — specifically, efforts in the U.S. to reduce social, educational or economic disparities based on race, ethnicity or gender — or to improving race relations in the U.S.
- Have experienced financial hardship due to family economic circumstances.
- Be a first-generation U.S. citizen or represent the first generation in your family to graduate from a four-year college or university.
What to expect:
A chance to see what life is like as a U-M anthro grad student! During your visit, you will have the opportunity to:
- Get an overview of our graduate program.
- Tour facilities in the department and across campus.
- Attend workshops and seminars, including application/admissions workshops.
- Ask questions about preparing your application.
- Meet faculty and current anthropology graduate students.
- Meet potential grad student peers from other departments.

- a current resume/CV.
- unofficial transcript(s).
- Note: a reference letter is recommended but not required.
