About
What is your advising philosophy? My role as an academic advisor is to be there for my students and to help them identify their strengths and needs so they can achieve their academic goals. In addition, I am committed to creating a safe environment for my students while making each one of them feel part of the institution.
What was your path to Newnan? I started my professional career teaching French and Spanish. After a few years I obtained a Master's in Counseling with the idea of becoming a school counselor, but life had different plans for me. I got married and had a baby boy; therefore, I decided to take a parental leave and spend time with my son. This time off from work offered me the opportunity to rethink my career and I decided that I would like a change, while still working with students, but in a different capacity. My first academic advisor job was with Oakland University, my Alma Mater, in the College of Arts and Sciences. This was a wonderful experience for me which showed me that I have taken the right decision for my career. After OU, my family and I spent two years in Austria where I worked as a Counselor. Recently we moved back to the US and I am very excited to continue my path as Academic Advisor within the Newnan Advising Center.
Why did you join Newnan? Newnan aligns with my core values for diversity, equity and inclusion, offers a great work environment and provided me the opportunity to start working with a diverse student population as an academic advisor.
Class you loved and why? In addition to all my French courses, I really enjoyed Sociology because it offered different perspectives, ideas and values of social life.
Interests and hobbies: Being outside, traveling, board games, spending time with my family and friends.
