Events and Expectations

Candace Dorsey is the Empowerment Self-Defense Program Manager at the University of Michigan, DPSS. As a Police Officer with EMU, Candace was a member of the Special Victims Unit (SVU), an active shooter instructor (ALICE) and to date an Adjunct Lecturer teaching a women’s self-defense course, Rape Aggression Defense Systems-RAD. She led a personal safety workshop where she taught WISE RP students physical and verbal forms of self defense 

Procter & Gamble, the consumer goods manufacturer famous for products such as Bounce, Bounty, Downy, Pampers, Tampax, and Tide visited WISE RP during Tea Time. Students were able to ask questions, network, and express interest in internships. This partnership was made possible by engaged U of M and WISE RP Alumni who are doing great work at P&G. 

In light of the 2022 decision by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe vs. Wade, the STEM Trifecta, a collaborative comprising the Women in Science and Engineering Residence Program (WISE RP), the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program, and the College of Engineering’s Office of Culture, Community, and Equity (OCCE), presented a panel discussion as a space for students to ask questions about the decision. The goal was to create a comfortable environment for students to learn about the science, policy, and real-world impact of this decision–at the personal level as college undergraduate and graduate students–but also as emerging STEM professionals.
