About the Program

Are you a STEM student passionate about leadership and technology? The WISE RP Study Abroad Program, in partnership with the Center for Global and Intercultural Study (CGIS), offers an exciting opportunity to study leadership and Tech in South Africa! This program centers the perspectives of gender-minoritized leaders in technology and examines the importance of diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence in effective leadership. Enhance your STEM leadership skills and learn within and across differences to positively affect change through a dynamic global experience! This program is open to all University of Michigan Ann Arbor WISE RP students, WISE RP student alumni, any gender-minoritized STEM students, and those who want to learn about underrepresented identities in STEM.

Participants will enroll in (or must have already completed) ALA 108: STEM Success in Winter 2025 at the University of Michigan, followed by a three-week journey to South Africa in May 2025. Led by Dr. Natasha Turman, this program combines on-campus learning with immersive global experiences, exploring leadership, STEM education, and the intersection of technology in South Africa.
