The Department of Statistics is happy to congratulate Zheng Gao, a rising 5th-year Ph.D. student of statistics, for winning the Best Student Paper Award at the 11th international conference on Extreme Value Analysis (EVA 2019).

Zheng presented his paper, Concentration of maxima and the fundamental limits of exact support recovery in high dimensions, at EVA 2019 which took place on July 1-5 in Zagreb, Croatia. The Best Student Paper Award was given in recognition of his excellent presentation and original solution of the exact support recovery problem using the concentration of maxima phenomenon.
