The Department of Statistics is excited to announce that a U-M team including four Statistics Ph.D. students has been selected as one of the four finalists of the nationwide American Heart Association's COVID-19 data challenge. The team, led by Dr. Brahmajee Nallamothu, a professor of internal medicine at the Michigan Medicine Frankel Cardiovascular Center, includes U-M Statistics’ own Yang Li, Cheng Ma, Weijing Tang, and Xuefei Zhang (PhD ‘20.), as well as Professor Ji Zhu.
The American Heart Association COVID-19 data challenge is focused on understanding the disproportionate burden of COVID-19 on underserved and vulnerable communities. The team’s project is titled “Effect of Public Health Policies on New Confirmed Cases for Corona Virus Disease 2019 in South Korea: Lessons for the World.” The four finalist teams will receive a prize and advance to the next stage of the challenge, with a grand prize to be announced in November.
