U-M Statistics welcomes three new faculty members
The Department of Statistics at the University of Michigan is delighted to welcome three new faculty members who joined the department this summer!
Ziwei Zhu
Ziwei Zhu has joined the Department of Statistics as an assistant professor. Prior to this, he was a research associate at Statslab at the University of Cambridge, hosted by Professor Richard Samworth. He received his Ph.D. (2018) in Operations Research and Financial Engineering at Princeton University, supervised by Professor Jianqing Fan. His main research interests are distributed statistical inference, robust statistics, low-rank matrix estimation and missing data.
Kean Ming Tan
Kean Ming Tan has joined the Department of Statistics as an assistant professor. He received his Ph.D. (2015) in Biostatistics from the University of Washington. Previously, he was an assistant professor of Statistics at the University of Minnesota. He is broadly interested in developing statistical machine learning methods for analyzing massive data sets. His current research interests include robust statistics, non-convex optimization, multivariate statistical methods and data integration from multiple sources.
Jeffrey Regier
Jeffrey Regier received a PhD in Statistics from UC Berkeley in 2016, and then served as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at UC Berkeley. He joins the Department of Statistics at the University of Michigan as an assistant professor. His research interests include graphical models, Bayesian inference, deep learning, high-performance computing, astronomy, and genomics.
