U-M Statistics is ranked as one of the top programs in the world.
A 2010 National Research Council study puts our PhD program firmly in the Top 10 in the nation, and the 2018 U.S. News and World Report ranks our graduate program among the top 10 (excluding biostatistics programs) in the United States.
Statistics at Michigan has a fast-growing reputation as an international leader in education and research in statistics and data science. Many of our faculty members are renowned researchers who work on some of the most important problems of our time, including modeling and analyzing complex and high-dimensional data. Among them are editors of leading statistics journals, IMS Medallion Lecturers, and elected fellows of the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. Our Emeritus Professors include a MacArthur Fellow (Susan Murphy), and a former president of the International Statistical Institute (Vijay Nair).
We continue to recruit the highest quality faculty and students, and we dedicate resources to producing the next generation of leaders in our field.
