About
Brad serves the role of data scientist in the Center for Solutions. In this role he works to turn data into usable information and find unseen connections and correlations with this information. Brad has a BS in Geography (Geographic Techniques) from Middle Tennessee State University, a Graduate Certificate in Geospatial Intelligence from Penn State University, and a MSc in Geographic Information Systems (Environmental Management) from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. Brad has worked as a geographer and data scientist in roles with the federal government, local government, private industry, and consultancies to NGOs. In Brad’s last position he served as the practice manager for software development and product manager for his company and the lead geospatial analyst supporting projects with FEMA, the World Bank, and many others. With over 10 years of experience with data and GIS, Brad has worked across six continents on projects ranging from data collection techniques and web development to flood exposure and habitat modeling.
Outside of work Brad spends a lot of time volunteering for nonprofits and NGOs supporting international disasters, collecting vital data and modeling outcomes. He also spends time developing an open-source habitat monitoring system that uses machine learning to show habitat loss due to land cover change or poaching threats to tiger habitats in Viet Nam, a continuation of his Master’s project. When not doing these things, Brad enjoys traveling to new areas of the world more than anything.
