Confronting the History, Impact, and Continuation of Slavery
William Faulkner wrote, “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” Historians increasingly recognize that the legacy of slavery in the United States remains with us today, with effects large and small. The Center for Social Solution’s slavery initiative rigorously explores that history as well as the ways contemporary forms of exploitation trap millions in types of involuntary servitude, that we call the Third Slavery. Through a series of collaborative projects, we hope to broaden the public understanding of the slavery, past and present.
