The LSA Scholarship committee has successfully awarded all Four-Year Renewable Scholarships for Fall 2024. All recipients have been notified by email. The application and awarding process is now complete!

We honor the intentions of our generous donors who fund these scholarships and adhere to stringent criteria in selecting recipients. We had a significant increase in the number of admitted students from previous years with a proportionate increase in the number of students we were able to award!

We understand how this impacts your decision with regards your educational journey. We commend you on your achievements and look forward to welcoming you to campus this Fall.

What is a Renewable Scholarship?

Each year, the LSA Scholarships Office awards Four-Year Renewable Scholarships to approximately 200 first-year incoming LSA students. These scholarships are only awarded to first year students and are based on a student's undergraduate admissions application, and their financial need (as demonstrated by their FAFSA and CSS profile.) For students qualified for merit scholarships, a FAFSA and CSS is not required. Read on to learn more about our Four-Year Renewable Scholarships requirements.

What does the scholarship cover?

For qualified first-year incoming LSA students, the Four-Year Renewable Scholarship helps to cover the cost of attendance.

Amounts and Duration

Award amounts vary for each scholarship. For in-state students, award amounts can go up to $15,000 per year. For out-of-state students, awards amounts can go up to $25,000 per year. All Four-Year Renewable Scholarships are renewable for four years of undergraduate study, provided students maintain eligibility by completing their requirements each academic year.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a Four-Year Renewable Scholarship, a student:

Must be a first-year incoming student, admitted to an undergraduate degree program in the College of LSA. Students will be considered even if they haven't enrolled yet.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (i.e. possess a green card).
Must apply for and receive need-based support through the Office of Financial Aid. Exception: students applying only for merit scholarships.
Must have a FAFSA and CSS profile on file with the Office of Financial Aid (OFA) and must renew their FAFSA annually for need-based scholarships. Exception: students considered only for merit scholarships.
Must be enrolled (or intend to enroll) full-time (12 credit hours or more) each term.

How do I apply?

It is no longer necessary to fill out an application. All new admits are now automatically considered. If you are applying to a specific scholarship fund, the process has three steps.

Step one: Verify your Friend Account in Wolverine Access. Instructions to do this are below under the question: How do I verify a Friend Account? If you have forgotten your Friend Account password, you can reset it here. If you do not have a Friend Account, you can create one here.

Step two: Once your Friend Account is verified, click the button below and log in to the LSA Scholarships application portal by using your Friend Account ID and password. If you do not verify your account, you will not be able to log in.

Step three: We will provide an active link on January 1, 2025, when we open the LSA Four Year Renewable Scholarship Application for the 2025-26 academic year.

LSA Scholarships is pleased to be launching a new software application system which is much more student-user friendly! We have done everything possible to not disrupt our application process. However, please be patient with us as we make this transition over the next several months.

Do I have to register to qualify?

How do I verify a Friend Account?

If you are an admitted student and already have a Friend Account, you will still need to authorize it to use university systems.

To authorize the account, go to Wolverine Access. Click on the Students tab, then on New & Prospective Student Business, and log in using your Friend Account ID and password. Verify your personal information, including your eight-digit UMID, which was emailed to you, as well as your birth date.

Once you have requested your Friend Account and authorized it, you will have access to our application system (plus a number of other university systems).

Note: Once you create a new Friend Account and authorize it by verifying your personal information, it may take 24 hours for your new account information to migrate to our application system, granting you access to the application. You may also need to clear your cache once you have finished verifying your information.

What if I don't have a Friend Account?

For admitted students who have not yet enrolled at the university, a Friend Account is required to access all university systems, including the LSA Scholarships application portal.

I received an error when logging in to the LSA Scholarships Portal. Can you help?

If you are an admitted student and receive an error when attempting to log in to the LSA Scholarships portal, first check to make sure you are logging in with your Friend Account ID and password. Then, make sure you have followed all the steps to authorize your Friend Account so that you can access university systems. Instructions to do this are included above under the question: How do I verify a Friend Account?

Once your account is verified, it can take up to 24 hours for your new account information to migrate to our application system, granting you access to the application. If you still encounter errors after completing all steps, try clearing your browser's cache or logging in with a different browser entirely. If these actions don't correct the issue, you may contact LSA IT for assistance at 734.615.0100. Be sure to have your UMID ready when you call.

NOTE: If you have enrolled, make sure you are using your new uniqname and password to log in. If you very recently paid your enrollment deposit and have noticed that you cannot log in to view or update your application, there can sometimes be a delay while our systems integrate your new uniqname information. Wait a few days and try again. If you continue to experience issues, please email us with a screenshot of the error so we can help troubleshoot.
