What is a Renewable Scholarship?
Each year, the LSA Scholarships Office awards Four-Year Renewable Scholarships to approximately 300 prospective first-year LSA students. Scholarship decisions are based on information from a student’s Undergraduate admissions application, LSA Scholarship application, Academic records, and achievements.
Most scholarships consider financial need, as demonstrated through the FAFSA and CSS Profile. A limited number of merit-based scholarships do not consider financial need and do not require students to submit financial aid applications.
By completing one LSA Scholarship application, students are automatically considered for all scholarships for which they may be eligible. Some scholarships have specific eligibility requirements that are not included in a student’s existing records. If a student’s initial application indicates that they may qualify for one of these scholarships, a supplemental application may become available after submission.
What does the scholarship cover?
For qualified prospective first-year LSA students, the Four-Year Renewable Scholarship helps to cover the cost of attendance for Fall and Winter terms.
Note: Cost of Attendance includes both direct and indirect educational expenses for one academic year (Fall and Winter semesters), including tuition, fees, housing, meals, books and supplies, transportation, loan fees, and personal expenses.
Amounts and Duration
Award amounts vary for each scholarship. All Four-Year Renewable Scholarships are intended to cover four consecutive years of undergraduate study. As long as a student maintains renewable eligibility criteria (listed below), the scholarship automatically renews each Fall term for that academic year.
Application Timeline
The 2027 application deadline is April 9, 11:59 pm EST. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applying early increases your chances of being matched with a scholarship. All scholarship notices are sent by April 16. The LSA enrollment deadline is May 1.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria
To apply for a Four-Year Renewable Scholarship, a student must:
- Be a prospective first-year student, admitted* to an undergraduate degree program in the College of LSA.
- Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (i.e. possess a green card).
- Intend to enroll full-time (at least 12 credit hours) during the academic year (Fall/Winter).
- Apply for and receive need-based support through the Office of Financial Aid, with a current FAFSA and a completed CSS Profile. (Students considered only for merit-based scholarships are exempt from this financial aid requirement.
*You can apply for LSA scholarships as soon as you’ve been admitted to the College of LSA; there’s no need to be officially committed or enrolled yet.
Renewable Eligibility Criteria
If you meet these requirements, the scholarship will automatically renew each fall for the next academic year. To maintain eligibility for a Four-Year Renewable Scholarship, a student must:
- Continue as a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a degree in the College of LSA (including MDDP programs); if you transfer to another UM college (such as Ross, Stamps, or Engineering), your LSA scholarship will not transfer with you.
- Remain a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (i.e. possess a green card).
- Continue to apply for and receive need-based support through the Office of Financial Aid.*
- Have a current FAFSA and completed CSS Profile with the Office of Financial Aid.*
*Exception: students who received merit scholarships are exempt from Financial Aid requirements.
How do I apply?
LSA students are eligible to apply once they have been admitted. Login access will become available after students receive their College of LSA admission letters for the 2027-2028 academic year.
