Learning knows no season. That's why many LSA students choose to continue their studies over the spring and summer terms. If you're considering taking courses or enrolling in an off-campus program, our scholarships can help make your spring and summer into a life enriching experience!

What does the scholarship cover?

The Spring/Summer Scholarship helps to cover the cost of attendance for on-campus or virtual courses. These scholarships can also be used toward off-campus, experiential programs including Semester in Detroit (SiD), New England Literature Program (NELP), Biological Station (BS), Camp Davis (CD), and Kitt Peak.

Amounts and Duration

The average Spring/Summer award is approximately $2,500. The Spring/Summer Scholarship award amounts vary and are determined by a student’s calculated Cost of Attendance and financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid. These awards are non-renewable, but you can reapply for them each year.

Application Timeline and Deadlines

The application for Spring/Summer opens on January 1st and closes on March 24.

To qualify for an LSA Spring/Summer Scholarship, a student:

  • Must be an undergraduate enrolled in a degree program (or MDDP) in the College of LSA.
  • Must maintain enrollment of 6+ credits for the spring, summer, or spring/summer term.
  • Must be a continuing student who has completed at least their first semester by the start of spring term.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (i.e. possess a green card).

  • Must have a FAFSA and CSS profile on file with the Office of Financial Aid (OFA).

How do I apply?

LSA Spring Summer Scholarship Application is now closed. An active link will become available on January 1, 2026, when the application opens for 2025-26 Spring Summer term.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to take all 6 credits in one term, or can I split them between spring and summer?

You can split your credits between the spring and summer terms, or take all 6 credits in just one. As long as you have a total of 6 credits, you’re eligible for the scholarship.

When will my Spring/Summer Scholarship be disbursed?

The timing of your scholarship disbursement depends on which term you’re enrolled in. Awards follow the Office of Financial Aid’s schedule and are typically released the week before the start of each term.

Your scholarship will first be applied to your tuition and fees. If any funds remain after this, they will be issued to you as a refund in accordance with the standard Office of Financial Aid disbursement timeline.

Students are encouraged to set up direct deposit for timely access to their scholarship refund.

Can I receive a Spring/Summer Study Scholarship and an LSA Internship Scholarship?

Students considering multiple spring/summer experiences should contact us or make an appointment with our office to discuss options. There are many factors in UM funding for multiple spring/summer experiences.
