RC Languages/Proficiency FAQ

"I didn't know anybody when I came to the University of Michigan. Joining the Residential College meant finding a community of people who were welcoming and willing to make campus a home for me. I've grown so much by living and learning in this space and I know my experiences here will last a lifetime."

"As an international student from Japan, coming to the University of Michigan was the most overwhelming challenge in my life. Due to the language barrier, it was very hard to understand lectures, finish my assignments, and make friends. The Residential College was a great community that supported me during the hardships. The professors in the RC really care about our success and passions. Their courses are not easy, but they are always there to help students. My RC friends have always been there to support me. After my freshman year, I became a tutor for the intensive Japanese class and joined the mentorship program (RC MAP) to support students who are having a hard time. It is also great to find my RC friends at different occasions on campus such as in my major, Organizational Studies. I really appreciate the support and opportunities that the RC has given me."
